Pesach will:

Ending the Revolving Door
New York is the only state in the nation that does not allow judges to consider whether a defendant is dangerous when making bail decisions. That means even when prosecutors believe someone poses a serious threat to victims, witnesses, police officers, or the public, they cannot ask for bail based on that danger alone.
Pesach Osina believes this dangerous loophole must be closed. Judges should have the authority to consider the full facts of a case, including a defendant’s criminal history, repeated arrests, violent behavior, threats against victims, and the likelihood that the individual will commit another crime if released. Dangerous repeat offenders should not be allowed to walk out of court and return to the same communities they have already harmed.
This is not about punishing someone before they are convicted. It is about using common sense, protecting due process, and giving judges the tools to stop clearly dangerous individuals from terrorizing neighborhoods while their cases move forward.
Pesach will fight to end the revolving door created by New York’s broken bail laws. Criminals who repeatedly threaten innocent people, attack police officers, target small businesses, or commit violent crimes should face real consequences. Public safety must come before policies that make excuses for repeat offenders and leave law-abiding families to pay the price.
Fighting Shoplifting
Families should not have to pay the price for lawlessness, and small businesses should not be forced to treat everyday products like they are luxury items.
Across our communities, people see the problem every time they walk into a pharmacy, supermarket, or local store. Shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, baby formula, medicine, and basic household goods are locked behind glass because retail theft has become too common and too costly. That is not normal, and it should not be accepted.
As Assemblyman, Pesach Osina will support legislation to lower New York’s felony retail theft threshold from $1,000 to $500. If someone walks into a store and steals $500 or more in merchandise, there must be serious consequences.
This policy is not about criminalizing poverty. It is about stopping organized retail theft, protecting workers, defending small businesses, and restoring quality of life in our neighborhoods. When theft goes unchecked, prices go up, stores close, workers are put in danger, and families are left paying more for the basic items they need.
Pesach’s plan will focus on:
Lowering the felony threshold for retail theft from $1,000 to $500.
Creating stronger penalties for repeat offenders and organized retail theft rings.
Giving prosecutors and law enforcement the tools they need to hold criminals accountable.
Protecting store workers from harassment, threats, and violence.
